Rebound Therapy / Special Needs

We currently have two class styles running at Castle Hill RSL gymnastics for children with special needs:

Circuit Class

This is a parent assisted mixed ability class for 5-12 year olds with a focus on general movement in a gymnastics environment. The class uses a variety of gymnastics equipment including trampoline, foam pit, bars, beam, floor and hand held equipment and also incorporates a warm up and cool down each session.

Our circuit class runs for 1 hour from 8.30-9.30am on Sunday Mornings during the six week program dates.

Bookings for this program are essential as this class is capped at a maximum of 15 participants.

Rebound Therapy

Rebound Therapy is a visionary new therapy technique for intellectually and physically handicapped children and adolescents. It is a trampoline based program with children working in small groups with a qualified Rebound Therapy coach. Classes run for 45 minutes between 9.30am-1.30pm on Sundays during the six week program dates.

What is Rebound Therapy?

Rebound Therapy is a visionary new therapy technique for intellectually and physically handicapped children and adolescents.

"Rebound Therapy" is a registered trademark in Great Britain (www.reboundtherapy.org) foundered by E.G. Anderson, in 1969 and describes the use of trampolines in providing therapeutic exercise and recreation for people with a wide range of special needs. The use of trampolines with the assistance of an instructor can bring about an exercise of internal organs and muscle groups in a student to assist fitness, movement and communication. The exercise techniques used on a trampoline are known to use more muscle groups than Hydrotherapy or any other ground based physical activity.

Who can benefit from Rebound Therapy?

Participants range from mild to severe physical disabilities and from mild to profound and multiple learning disabilities, including dual sensory impairment and autistic spectrum.

The current Rebound Therapy Program caters for children and adolescents who are school aged (5 -18 years). Pre-school aged children with special needs are incorporated into our Kindergym program.

What are the benefits of Rebound Therapy?

Rebound therapy is used to:

- Facilitate movement
- Promote balance
- Promote and increase and decrease in muscle tone
- Promote relaxation
- Promote sensory integration
- Improve fitness and exercise tolerance
- Improve communication skills.
- Combat Obesity.
