What is Kindergym?
Kindergym is the recognised name and terminology used by the Gymnastics Australia to identify programs designed and provided for children 5 years of age and under, which meet the criteria of the Kindergym Australia Guiding Principles. Kindergym is a movement program for children 5 years and under and their care-giver, designed to develop the whole child, socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically, in a safe, structured, multi-sensory environment.
- That positive movement experiences can influence a child's outlook on physical activity for life.
- That it is possible to assist in the development of the whole child, socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically, by providing a structured, multi-sensory environment, where the child may creatively explore and practice skills safely, whilst developing self-confidence and self-esteem.
- That providing a fun environment in which a child and care-giver may play together is worthwhile.
Our Kindergym Class
A typical Kindergym class will be 60 minutes in duration, commencing with a 15 minutes of Free Play. A KinderGym coach will then bring the group together for warm-up, which consists of fun and fast moving and stretching activities. All of these are disguised in fun and games and often include movement to music. The Kindergym coach will conducts Group Time, an opportunity for children and carers to work together to develop skills and concepts, such as body awareness, gymnastics shapes, hand/eye co-ordination etc. This is followed by Circuit Time involves guided discovery on a range of equipment that is stimulating, exciting and challenging. Finally, the group comes back together for a Cool Down activity or game.
At Castle Hill our KinderGym program is themed with themes changing fortnightly. Our themes are designed to be fun, educational and relevant. Please see KinderGym News for this terms themes.
What to wear and bring
Children should wear comfortable clothing and bare feet. Please avoid dresses, skirts or clothing that may become caught on equipment.
A free Castle Hill RSL Kindergym t-shirt is included with the purchase of a 10 visit pass. These can also be purchased from the office for $10.
We also suggest that children with long hair have their hair tied back.
We suggest that parents who are participating wear comfortable clothing that allows for free movement.
The gym has a bubbler/water cooler, however you may want to bring a drink bottle for your child.
Children with Special Needs
Children with special needs are welcome to participate in our KinderGym program. All of our KinderGym coaches have undergone special needs training, with several of our coaches being Rebound Therapy coaches (please see our Rebound Therapy Program). We recommend the classes on Mondays or Fridays for children with Special Needs as their is more support available from our coaching staff. We suggest a 10 week commitment to this program in order for your child to become familiar with the coaches and facility and benefit from the activities.
Please contact the office for more infomation regarding Special Needs in our Kindergym program.
